View of one pillar p...: View of one pillar pagoda in Hanoi. It is said that it was first built in 1049 during the early Ly dynasty. The pagoda was destroyed a number of times over the centuries, most recently in 1954 during the French Colonial retreat, but was reconstructed in its present form in 1955 with a concrete pillar. This pagoda has the shape of a lotus climbing out of the water. This photo was taken before it was fired by the French in 1945 when they escaped from Hanoi. /KTS
